− | {{ClassPage | + | {{ClassPage|CMSC498I Computer Vision - an Entrepreneurial Perspective|Larry Davis||According to Chrunchbase there are currently more than 150 companies, most of them startups, developing computer vision technology for a wide variety of applications in social media, health care, marketing, sports, robotics and many more sectors of the US economy. This course will include an introduction to many of the foundational methods in computer vision and machine learning on which these companies are based. Topics covered will include image database systems, how objects can be located and recognized in images, and how to locate and track people in video and recognizing their activities. There will be 3-4 guest lecturers in the course from the computer vision startup community to share their experiences with the class. |3-4 hours|Java|Should have finished all 300 level requirements|Course will have a coupe of exams and 3 projects. The projects will each focus on a different application. One will certainly be on face detection and recognition in social network image collections; the other two are TBD. Exams will count for 40% and the three projects for 60%. |The course is much more about methods and algorithms than it is about theory.
